Learning together

A lifelong learning journey

Education and learning are a significant part of The Friends' charitable objectives. We will help anyone who wants to learn more about gardening.

We have run training sessions for the volunteers on pruning shrubs and fruit trees. We organise tree walks, craft days and history-related walks to encourage learning about the Garden. We funded a day’s ‘Learn to Clip’ course for all volunteers and the Council’s Garden Team, run by topiary specialists Chris Poole of the European Boxwood and Topiary Society and topiary artist Darren Lerigo.

The Friends can arrange a guided tour of the Garden for organisations and garden tour operators.  We also give lectures to local clubs and societies.   We ask for a donation to The Friends for both.  For more information on tours and lectures contact friends@bridgeendgarden.org.

Volunteer and basket weaving expert Mary Butcher taught us how to make string from plant materials – a useful skill in an emergency!
