Update on the Edimentals
In January we reported that a series of new beds had been planted in the Walled Garden containing edible plants - also known as edimentals. These included rosemary, king’s spears, bay, lavender, salad burnet, thyme, oregano, chives, ice plant, musk mallow, pineapple sage, sweet cicely, sage, mint and marjoram. It is pleasing to report that the majority of the plants have thrived very well.
Watering was permitted, which was just as well as the temperatures in the Walled Garden have been excessive. There were some losses. The two 'lollipop' bays were caught by a frost but are now growing from the base. Some of the pineapple sage did not survive. The supplier had warned that it was half hardy but it is so sheltered in the Walled Garden that it seemed worth a try. We will not replace but look for another edimental we can rely on.
Now they are established we are looking for chefs and producers to use the Garden produce. If you are interested please contact the Friends at: friends@bridgeendgarden.org.
